Gorilla Trekking VS Gorilla Tracking

Gorilla trekking is the activity done by tourists while searching for an allocated mountain gorilla family in the forest while gorilla tracking is the search for a habituated family by game ranger.

Mountain Gorillas are one of the endangered species that people go for to attain a great and thrilling experience. Gorilla trekking can be done in three countries; Uganda safaris, Rwanda safaris and Congo.

In Uganda, it can be done in Bwindi impenetrable national park and Mgahinga Gorilla national park. Bwindi has over 640 gorilla with over 20 families (half of the world’s gorilla population) and Mgahinga has one habituated gorilla family.

Gorillas in Rwanda are found in the volcanoes national park and they are over 13 families. In Congo they are found in the Virunga Massif.

A gorilla permit in Uganda goes for 700USD, 1500USD in Rwanda and 400USD in Congo. For a person to do gorilla trekking, s/he should be physically fit and in a good condition as the activity involves hiking and climbing hills.

Gorilla trekking can be done all the time but we have wet and two dry seasons- June, July, August, September and December which are not muddy thus making it easier to pass through the impenetrable forests and it is usually done in the morning.

When one is to go for gorilla trekking, he should carry waterproof hiking boots, a raincoat, long sleeved shirt, waterproof day pack and long trousers.
