UGANDA TOURIST GUIDES TO CELEBRATE INTERNATIONAL TOURIST GUIDES DAY

Uganda Tourist Guides will together with the world to celebrate the International Tourist Guides Day on Feb 21st 2007 ( Wednesday ). The day will begin with a City walk in the morning guided by the Cultural Guides Club members.

Tourism organizations, the leaders, guides and many affliates to tourism are expected to Meet at Constitutional Square formerly known as city square and the trek will begin at 8: 15.am.

The trail will go through the City square, Independence monument, Nakasero Market, St.Balikudembe Sub-parish, craft center. This walk is intended to demonstrate an interpretive story of Uganda’s cultural and historical sites.

Then later 4:00pm, they will meet at the Uganda Museum for the Celebrations.

This will be an educative and senstisation tour which will improve awareness to the general public and the importance of cultural tourism to Uganda.

BWINDI AND MGAHINGA PARK COMMUNITIES ASSURED PROTECTION

UWA has assured protection to the communities around Mgahinga and Bwindi national parks.
This was after realising the problems that communities living around these are facing.

These park neighbours have been facing animal attacks that have destroyed their crops which have even led to killing of these animals in retaliation.

The two park that is Bwindi impenetrable national park and Mgahinga gorilla national Park are the only park in Uganda that harbour one of Uganda’s Unique tourism highlight the Endangered the Mountain gorilla -Gorilla Beringei.

The communities include; all the neighboruing districts of the parks that is Kasese, kisoro , Kanungu and kabale districts.

MGAHINGA NATIONAL PAARK’S GORILLAS BACK

It was proclaimed that gorillas are back in Mgahinga National park. This was after a prolonged 3 years’ disappearance of gorilla which had crossed to Rwanda Pac des Volcanos which is also home to these endangered mountain Gorillas.

The habituated mgahinga family of Nyakagezi had reduced from 11 in number to 7 gorilla. As more of the gorilla will cross back to Mgahinga Natioanal park, this will increase on Uganda’s toursm in flow given the fact that Gorilla tracking is one of the unight tourism highlight that Uganda has and hence tourism development.

BIRD FLU SCARE TRIALS TO BEGIN IN UGANDA

Uganda to Initiate a bird flu scare trials

Specialist on bird flu also known as Avian Influenza are to carry out public scare replication to test the level of favouritism in case a pandemic of the deadly virus broke out here in Uganda.

The initial exercise will take place on any poultry farms that are assumed to be knocked out by the pandemic early this year. This strategy is led by the ministry of Agriculture, animal industries and fisheries and part of the National anti- bird flu preparedness.

This will involve members of the national task force setting quarantine for a selected poultry farm and its people before the force conducts its examinations. The examinations will be killing the animals as if they were infected with H5n1(the virus that causese avian influenza and then the owner of the farm will be compensated for the loss as said by Dr. Nicholas Kauta the commissioner for animal health and Entomology .

Dr .Nicholas said this on the 29th January 2007 while addressing a training workshop for journalists mainly from African Commonwealth countries, prearranged by Uganda Media for Health, a Kampala-based firm of journalists and medical experts which does capacity-building among expatriates on health issues.

The different topics covered included empowering the media on bird flu awareness, infection control, contribution from partners like FAO, WHO, and the EU, internet sourcing and the way forward.

Uganda birds are a source of tourism so once protected, they will lead to tourism development. Uganda has over 1000 bird species ranging from domestic bird, indeginous to migrants. Uganda’s birding delights are rarely understated and some of the birds include;
Uganda’s most sought after bird, the prehistoric looking Shoebill stork. Other key species include: the African fish eagle, marital eagle, papyrus gonolek, African skimmer and many more.

So given the fact that birds are among the tourism attractions in Uganda , keeping their health is vital for it encourages tourism in Uganda
