ARMY TRAINEES CELEBRATE CULTURE DAY
Army officers undertaking training at the Senior Command and Staff College, Kimaka in Jinja celebrated their cultural day on Saturday.
The day is celebrated per annum and activities include exhibiting traditional items, foods and clothing made by various traditional groups in East Africa and other countries. Gutti said culture studies were part of their syllabus.
It was explained that in these times, when armies are involved in peacekeeping, as the UPDF is in Somalia, it is important to know the background, cultural defenses and security strategies of other peoples.
Guests were nursed to presentations from distinctive traditional dancing groups from all over Uganda that included the Ndere Troupe, Taarab from Tanzania, Watmon Cultural group, Sekiwunga Aids Community, Bor traditional dancers and the Dov Jazz choir from southern Sudan.
