Gorilla Trekking at Bwindi National Park

The park is located in the South-Western Uganda on the edge of the Western Rift valley. Bwindi is home to over 350 endangered mountain gorillas which are quite possibly the most awe-inspiring animals to be found in Africa. There are also 346 species of birds and over 200 species of butterflies. Gorilla tracking is the major tourist activity in Bwindi with six habituated groups currently available daily for tourists. The Mubare group which was opened for tourism in 1993, the Habinyanja group opened in July 1998, the Rushegura group opened in July 2002, Ruhinja fully opened in February 2009, Nkuringo opened in April 2004 and Nshongi. Gorilla tracking in Bwindi can be challenging and requires a certain level of physical fitness. The tracking starts early morning and can last from a few hours to a full day’s hike depending on the movement of these giant apes.

3 DAY'S GORILLA TREKKING TOUR

DAY 1. Kampala - Bwindi Gorilla Forest
Depart early morning from Kampala and head towards western Uganda. A brief stop at the Equator allows time for photographs. The journey affords images of herds of the long horned Ankole cattle, the rolling hills and terraced landscapes of the region, and beautiful panoramas that are part of Kabale District. We have a lunch break en route at Lake View Regency Hotel Mbarara. Drive direct to the park and arrive late evening. Overnight at Gorilla resort Camp or Buhoma Community bandas

DAY 2. Mountain Gorilla Tracking - Bwindi Forest
Very early you will have a briefing from the rangers and then after proceed to the forest for gorilla tracking. An encounter of these endangered primates with the silver backs is a worth while. You are advised to carry packed lunch because the time taken when tracking gorilla is unpredictable. After tracking proceed to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

DAY 3. Kampala Return Trip
An early breakfast at the camp drive back to Kampala. Lunch en route.
