ROBERT BEGUMISA: Managing Director
Robert or Bob, as he is commonly known, is passionate about the mystifying natural world of East Africa’s tropical Forests. Robert grew up on a small village in the then Masaka district, present day Ssembabule, in the renown Masaka- Ankole corridor, where his appreciation of nature and the wild began. After completing university, he wanted to broaden his horizons and took a post with the Ministry of Internal Affairs as a welfare officer. However, his passion for the Ugandan wild beckoned him. Having gained valuable experience working in Uganda’s tourism industry for over five years, Robert’s passion and enthusiasm made him found Abacus African Vacations. He is eager to share his knowledge and help you plan an unforgettable African adventure; he has helped plan countless trips throughout East Africa. His love of wildlife and learning about cultures, coupled with his extensive travel experiences, has inspired him to travel to destinations such as Europe, USA, Asia and almost all African countries.
MAUDE: General Manager
Maude Martin is the General Manager of Abacus African Vacations. Born in Quebec, Canada, she grew up in Victoria, British-Columbia before embarking in worldwide travel. She has lived, worked, school and/or visited: Thailand, Mexico, Norway, France, England, Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda, South Africa, and of course, Uganda. She holds a B.A. in International Development and a M.A. in Social Anthropology. Maude has a professional background in marketing and tourism specific to Uganda. Although she loves going on adventurous safaris, she especially enjoys the idyllic nature of relaxing at a luxury lodge in the middle of the rain forest. When she isn’t managing the Abacus office, she takes pleasure in cooking, reading, boxing, and exploring Kampala’s nightlife haunts.
Brian is the accountant of Abacus African Vacations LTD. He has occupied
this position since the 1st of March 2008. A graduate with a Bachelors of Science degree in Accounting and Finance from Kyambogo University, Brian is a self motivated, enthusiastic and hardworking individual with good people skills, able to work in a team, ability to work on assigned tasks with limited supervision, work passionately on which ever assignments he is allocated and above all execute his work with a high level of integrity. He was born and raised from Mbarara District, in the Western region of
Uganda. Brian attended both his preparatory and high school in Mbarara
District before joining Kyambogo University for his Bachelors of
Science in Accounting and Finace degree. Brian is able to communicate in English, Luganda and Runyankole/Rukiga Away from his office duties, Brian enjoys hanging out with friends, career development activities, listening to music and watching a movie
that make him laugh.
Makonzi Michael Kiwanuka is the E-marketeer of Abacus African Vacations. Born in Mukono district, a native district of Uganda, he has lived, studied and worked in Uganda. He holds a First Class Honours Degree in Tourism from Makerere University, and has special training in e-tourism marketing for Africa. He has over three years of experience in tourism marketing and has outstanding skills in online marketing and search engine promotion. Michael is also an editorial contributor on “Travel in Uganda” with several newspapers and travel websites, and has carried out research on the ecotourism potentials of several sites in Kampala, Kabarole, Entebbe, Mukono, Masaka and Mpigi. Michael is fascinated with sharing and learning about different cultures of the world and is a member of International Institute of Peace through Tourism (IIPT), and an alumni of Makerere University of Tourism Association (MUTA). He loves reading books, traveling for adventure in pure, unexplored, and natural destinations.
JEAN LUCKY ANKUNDA: Office Administrator
Jean Lucky Ankunda is the office administrator at Abacus African Vacations. She was born and raised in Kampala, Uganda and also completed a Bachelor of Arts with Education degree in English and Literature from the capital city. She is a Mukiga, and her family is from Kigezi, Kabale, the South Western part of Uganda which is also home to the mountain gorillas. She is fluent in English, Runyankore / Rukiga and Luganda. She has always had a great passion and fascination for tourism, world cultures, wildlife and, especially beautiful scenery. She is interested in the beauty and history of towns and cultural places. She love challenges and easily adapts to changing environments. When not working, she loves traveling, watching documentaries and movies, listening to music, discovering new things, meeting people, and making friends.
JACKIE KISIBO: Tour Consultant
Jackie is a tour consultant. If there is something to be arranged, whether it be suggesting interesting travel routes or places of interest, to planning and arranging holiday and travel products, she is the one to contact. Born and educated in Uganda with a B.A. Tourism degree from Makerere University, she has a thorough understanding of travel sites, attractions and clientele needs. Her personal travel experiences have taken her to many countries in Africa and Europe, and helping our travelers plan trips to beautiful adventurous destinations is the best part of her work. She loves to read and write travel articles on her spare time.
HUSSEIN K. SSEZIBWA: Reservations and Logistics Officer
Born and bred in central Uganda, he studied tourism and has worked on several tourism and conservation projects around national parks in Uganda. Hussein started off his tourism career at Ngamba Chimpanzee Sanctuary as a volunteer, then a Guide/ Care-giver before being transferred to Kibale national park to assist in the conservation education programme under the Jane Goodall Institute. From there he was commended and transferred to head the Disney Animal Kingdom wildlife conservation centralized and outreach Programme in Kalinzu- Queen Elizabeth national park area, where he worked for two years, successfully handing over the operations of the project to the local
National Forestry Authority staff. A member of Nature Uganda for eight years, he has been to many nature reserves and cultural sites across Uganda.
He look forward to a world where wildlife is left in the natural habitats with no hindrance. He spends time studying the behaviors, individual characters and associations of people and wildlife in the environment.
BAKER ROBERT KIGANDA: Webmaster
Baker is a webmaster and system administrator for Abacus and has occupied this position for two years. Baker’s duties include designing and hosting websites as well as being a network administrator for the company. Baker is also a company technician, fixing any technical problems surfacing in the daily lives of the computers. He has obtained qualifications from Makerere University with a diploma in networking as well as a bachelor’s degree in Business Computing from St. Lawrence University.
